editorial
process.
Learn how Occcy researches, tests, reviews, and reports on technology, products, services, and trends to provide accurate, useful information and help readers make informed decisions.
from idea to published.
research
we start with what readers need to know. we read the spec sheets, documentation and announcements, and talk to people who use the thing every day. every claim needs a source we can point to.
testing
if we review it, we use it. phones get carried, software gets installed on our own machines, services get used on real accounts. we test the way people actually use things.
reviews
each review says what we tested, for how long and what we compared it with. if something is good but overpriced, we say so. if it breaks, we say that too.
reporting
news is checked before it goes up. we keep what’s confirmed separate from what’s reported elsewhere, and we say which is which.
editing
an editor reads every piece before it’s published, checking facts, sources and headlines. a headline has to match the story under it.
money doesn't
buy coverage.
affiliate links
some links earn us a commission if you buy. they don’t decide what we recommend, and you pay the same price.
sponsored content
paid pieces are labelled sponsored at the top. they’re kept apart from our reviews and recommendations.
review units
when a company lends us a product, we say so in the review. they don’t see the review before it’s published.
advertising
advertisers don’t choose what we cover or what we say about it.
spotted
a mistake?
when we get something wrong, we fix it and add a note at the end of the article saying what changed and when. typos are fixed without a note. guides and reviews are updated when prices, software or products change, and the date at the top of each article shows the last update.
